Gesellmann was first mentioned in documents in 1776. Since then, many generations of winemakers have contributed to the fact that the common knowledge is not forgotten, but redefined in connection with modernity.

A milestone in the family history - but also in the history of Burgenland viticulture - was set by Engelbert Gesellmann in the 1980s with the planting of international varieties and their aging in French barriques. The results of this pioneering work are today among the deep red icons: Opus Eximium (from 1988) and Bela Rex (from 1992)
