Lorenz & Söhne on the Nahe

The Lorenz & Söhne winery on the Nahe was founded in 1950. Today it is managed in the 4th generation by Ulrich and Johanna Lorenz.

Ulrich Lorenz is a technician for viticulture and cellar management. Together with his wife Johanna he puts all his passion into viticulture. The winery is located in the district of Bosenheim on the outskirts of Bad Kreuznach.

Almost 40 hectares of vineyards are cultivated by Lorenz & Söhne. Among others,70% ofthe vineyards Kreuznacher Paradies and Kreuznacher Rosenberg are planted with white grapes on calcareous clay and gravelly or sandy loam. The Bonnheimer Hof restaurant belongs to the Lorenz & Söhne winery.

The region - Nahe

The Nahe wine-growing region is a comparatively small area with just 4,200 hectares of cultivated land. This is where the Lorenz & Söhne winery has its cradle. The wines get their very own, typical character from the very different soil conditions.

Grape varieties that thrive particularly well here and produce individual wines include Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Kerner, whereby Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner are the most important grape varieties of the Nahe. Riesling, with its comparatively late ripening period, is particularly pleased with the Central European climate. Location and soil quality play a special role. The red grape varieties (Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Portugieser, Regent) account for about 25% of the cultivated area.

Soil quality on the Nahe

The Nahe is particularly notable for its numerous different soil types. There are about 180 types of soil here, from which the wines of Lorenz & Söhne also benefit. There are quartz and slate soils, mottled sandstone, sandstone, weathered soils, loess and loam, and so on.
