History of the Weinkellereien Aarau

The Weinkellereien Aarau are located in central Switzerland and were originally founded in 1873, at that time still in Olten. The company has always specialised in wines with a good price-performance ratio. To this end, the company relies on close, cooperative relationships with the winegrowers who supply the grapes for the winery's wines.

Today's production facility has been located in Rohrerstrasse since 1948 and has been repeatedly modernized and rebuilt over the years. In 1959, for example, a semi-automatic bottling line was introduced and the building was constantly expanded. Today, a computer-controlled high-bay warehouse and a fully automatic bottling plant can be found in the company buildings. In the meantime, there is not much left to see of the buildings at the time of the move-in.

Philosophy of Weinkellerein Aarau

A big, important factor in business for the Weinkellereien Aarau is sustainable management, whether out of ecological value or social responsibility. Some of the measures are avoidance of empty runs, fair conditions for employees, training of apprentices to secure the future, delivery of material by rail through the in-house railway siding and others.

The portfolio

In recent years, Weinkellereien Aarau has diversified further. Originally, only wines from the region were bottled, but today this activity has been extended to the whole of Switzerland, as well as abroad to some extent. The range now includes a large selection of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and American wines. South America and South Africa are also represented. A jewel in the portfolio is, for instance, the 007 champagne of Champagne Bollinger, which is distributed by the house in Switzerland.

In addition to the bottlings, the wineries also work as distributors for small winegrowers, who get access to a large, international trade network through the company. The philosophy is to build long-term partnerships instead of short-lived business.
