Bodegas Enguera - Organic by the book
Bodegas Enguera is a winery located in the Valencia region of eastern Spain. The estate is fully committed to organic viticulture. Production is constantly optimized and adapted to reduce its own footprint more and more.
The history of Bodegas Enguera
The history of Bodegas Enguera begins with Mr. Pedro, who was born into a farming family in 1921. His childhood on the farm gives rise to an intimate connection with nature. After the Second World War, he successfully manages various businesses and even rises to become the largest distributor of butane gas in the Mediterranean in the 60s. in 1974 he acquires several pieces of land in the Enguera area. Among them are the wineries Casa Lluch and Casa Corones, where in the cellar of the latter the wine production begins. in 1999 he fulfills another dream and builds a new winery: Bodegas Enguera is born. In 2002, the vineyard area is once again increased by 20 hectares with the acquisition of Casa Toñuna, and the second generation of the family enters with Mr. Pedro's daughter María Cruz Pérez Herrero and son-in-law D. Juan Iglesias Jiménez enter the winery. At that time, the decision was made to completely convert to organic viticulture, which was consequently seen as having a promising future.

The step towards organic
In 2011, all the plots of the winery could be certified organic, a milestone that Mr. Pedro could still personally experience. The third generation followed this year with the grandsons Juan Ramón Iglesias Pérez, Pedro Iglesias Pérez and Silver Segarra Pérez. While Juan takes over the management of the winery from 2013 and Pedro takes care of tourism, Silver, however, moves into medicine.
Enguera Planet - the heart of the effort
in 2014, the Enguera Planet research center is founded, which now continues to find new processes and analyze the existing ones in order to minimize the impact of agriculture on the environment. It was initially led by Juan Martínez Barberá, an oenologist with a passion for organic viticulture and good contacts with universities and research institutes. Currently, the center is headed by Raúl Moral Herrero. One result of the research projects is, for example, the Aliats wine line, which is produced according to the latest findings.
