A success story from Mercurey
The Château de Chamirey was built at the beginning of the 18th century on a rocky outcrop in the commune of Mercurey. It thus towers over the extensive vineyards of the appellation in Burgundy. At the end of the 19th century, the château's chapel burned down. In the course of the reconstruction, the towers of the castle were also built, which today characterize the Bidl. Shortly afterwards, the owner family Dupaty sold the castle to the Jouennes d'Herville family.

In 1934 the modern history of the château began. Marquis de Jouennes bottled the first vintage under the name of the château. For that time, this was very modern. His successor in the management of the winery was his son-in-law, Bertrand Devillard. He continued to run the winery with the same foresight and dynamism. By purchasing the best vineyards in Mercurey, the vineyards could be extended to 37 hectares. In the meantime, the management of the winery was transferred from Burgundy to the children. Today, Aurore and Amaury Devillard, together with cellar master Enrico Peyron, produce multifaceted and internationally renowned Burgundies.

Top vineyards
Nearly half of Chamirey's vineyards are located on a wide variety of Premier Cru sites. Two of them are solely owned by the family. A full 6 Premier Cru sites belong to the estate, including:
- Clos du Roi
- La Mission (white grape varieties only)
- Les Ruelles (red grape varieties only)
- Les Champs Martins
The top sites result in a multi-faceted variety of soils and microclimates that give Chamirey wines a character all their own.

The vineyards are dominated by Pinot Noir (Pinot Noir). It is vinified as a single variety and produces full-bodied, very concentrated Burgundy red wines with a lot of potential and usually a long shelf life. Chardonnay accounts for a significantly smaller share. Soils dominated by limestone give the white wines from Mercurey elegance and a fragrant freshness.
