The Château Mont-Redon, located in a glorious location around the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, is with its 145 hectares of vineyards one of the most famous wineries in this region.
The art of winemaking is in the blood of Château Mont-Redon
Set amidst picturesque vineyards, the estate captivates with its elegant elements of marble, oak wood and wrought iron. But also the cordiality with which visitors are received by Eric Mercier makes a very pleasant feeling when visiting this winery. Due to the excellent quality of its wines, Château Mont-Redon has even earned itself a little bit of world fame. It's no wonder, since viticulture has been practiced in this region for more than a thousand years. The art of making good wine is in the blood of the people who live here.

Growing land and changing owners
In the mid-18th century, the Mathieu family of winemakers was based at Mont-Redon. They were among the most successful in Châteauneuf - so the winemaker named Marquis Anselme de Mathieu, who was active at the time, could afford to occasionally retire and pursue his avocation as a poet. Incidentally, he had a reputation as the "poet of the kiss". Over the years, the estate changed hands a few times and new land was added again and again. The current owner is the family firm Abeille-Fabre.

Wines for people with and without patience
Every year, Château Mont-Redon bottles about 650,000 bottles. The majority of these are red wines - only a fifth are white wines. A total of twelve grape varieties are cultivated, with Grenache Noir predominating. Each young wine remains in the mash for several weeks so that it can develop its full body. Half of the production goes into barrique after vinification and is allowed to age there for a year and a half. After the bottles are filled, another six years pass on average before a red Château Mont-Redon finds its way into the glass. But the white wines also have a certain storage potential; a Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc may have rested for five years before being enjoyed. However, those who don't want to wait that long will be rewarded with an excellent taste after just two years.

Château Mont-Redon honored with many awards
The degustation room of Château Mont-Redon has several functions. It is a room with a rustic style, a place for family celebrations, a house museum and a room for tastings. But the Château also likes to invite guests to the room when it is awarded a prize. For example
- a gold medal from the Confédération des Caves Particulières, or
- the Grand Prix d'Excellence of the French Oenologists' Association.
Congratulations are in order.
