Some may still remember the Swiss pop duo Yello with singer Dieter Meier, or at least their song "The Race" which served as the theme song for the music show "Formula 1". But music is not the only passion of the multi-faceted artist to this day, but also organic farming. For years Dieter Meier has been a convinced organic farmer in Argentina - in Pampa Humeda he raises cattle, in Agrelo Alto Dieter Meier produces PURO wines. Both with organic certification (ArgenCert).

Agrelo Alto, as dry as it is rich in minerals

Agrelo Alto is considered the best winegrowing region of Mendoza. The dry, stony-sandy soils are very rich in minerals. The result of millions of years of deposits washed up with the meltwater of the Andes. The meltwater also fills the rivers and groundwater lakes in the area, from which the winegrowers derive their share for the targeted irrigation of the vineyards. Without irrigation, not much would work in the dust-dry sites. Only the careful drop-by-drop supply of moisture guarantees the regular quality of the grapes.

However, the dryness has above all good sides. It protects the vines from fungal diseases and rot; an enormous advantage, especially for organic viticulture, which consistently dispenses with fungicides or other chemical pesticides! In addition, the climate is optimal for viticulture. Warm days and cool nights give the grapes enough time to develop their full ripeness while maintaining a fresh acidity. With powerful varietal expression and a fine balance of aromatic fruit, acidity, gently ripened tannin and alcohol, they form the perfect basis for the top PURO wines from Dieter Meier.

The grape varieties

With great dedication, the vines at Dieter Meier are accompanied throughout the entire process - from bud to finished wine. Mainly the grape varieties: 

• Malbec
• Cabernet Sauvignon
• Cabernet Franc
• Syrah

and also the white grape variety Torrontes are vinified.
