Domaine Bailly-Reverdy

A name of love

The name Bailly-Reverdy was born in 1952 when Bernard Bailly married Marie-Thérèse Reverdy. Four years later, Bernard decided to bottle and sell his wine, which he grew privately. The couple's last names then became the estate name, and Domaine Bailly-Reverdy was born. in 1979, exports of the wines began under Jean-François, Bernard's son. Today Aurélien, Bernard's grandson, is part of the business and runs the day-to-day operations with his uncle Franck.

Geology and wine in the Loire Valley

Domaine Bailly-Reverdy is located in Sancerre, in the Loire Valley, so it is not surprising that the estate's main grape varieties are Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, from which the Sancerre AOC wines are made. Typical of the region are the"terres blanches" of chalk (hence the name) and clay in the western hills. Towards the Loire, one finds soils of clay and flint, which give the wine a mineral note and absorb heat well, accelerating ripening. In addition, there are also gravelly soils, very stony and calcareous, which tend to provide fruity, soft wines. Four white wines, one red wine and one rosé are produced by the Domaine today.
