More information about Escudo Rojo Carménère - Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile

The barrel-aged Escudo Rojo Carmenère from the Valle Central wine-growing region presents itself in the glass with a dense purple-red color. On the nose, this Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile red wine reveals all kinds of blackcurrants, plums, morello cherries, mulberries, and blueberries. As if that were not already impressive, further aromas such as black tea, dark chocolate, and cinnamon are added through maturation in small oak barrels.

On the palate, Escudo Rojo Carmenère from Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile opens wonderfully dry, firm, and aromatic. On the finish, this youthful red wine from the Valle Central wine-growing region delights with considerable length. Once again, hints of blackcurrant and blackberry emerge. In the aftertaste, mineral notes from the clay- and gravel-dominated soils join in.

Vinification of Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile Escudo Rojo Carmenère

The powerful Escudo Rojo Carmenère from Chile is a varietal wine made from the Carmenère grape. In the Valle Central, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on clay and gravel soils. The grapes for this Chilean red wine are harvested exclusively by hand once they have reached perfect ripeness. After harvesting, the grapes are brought to the press house without delay. There, they are sorted and gently crushed. This is followed by fermentation in small oak vats at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, Escudo Rojo Carmenère is matured for another 6 months in oak barrels.

Food recommendation for Escudo Rojo Carmenère from Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile

Enjoy this red wine from Chile ideally at a temperature of 15–18°C as an accompanying wine to veal and onion casserole, lamb ragout with chickpeas and dried figs, or boeuf bourguignon.
