Cultivation and vinification of Cobos Felino Malbec
Felino Malbec is made from 100% Malbec grapes grown in the vineyards of Luján de Cuyo, Maipù and Valle de Uco at an altitude between 700 and 1200 m above sea level. The climate in this region is dry, with low rainfall. The 2014–2015 growing season was, however, somewhat more difficult, with more rain and higher humidity than usual, so the harvest had to be scheduled almost a month earlier than normal. The Malbec grapes could be harvested between mid-March and mid-April. Fermentation took place with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks with capacities between 8 and 17 tons, followed by bottling in February 2016 without fining and unfiltered.
The wines of the 2015 vintage are more terroir-driven than usual. They show elegance, medium body, finesse and low alcohol content, while at the same time lively, very pronounced fruit notes, aromatic richness and balanced acidity.
The Felino line from Viña Cobos
The special hallmark of the wines in the Felino line is their freshness and pronounced fruitiness. The grapes used for this purpose come from various vineyards in the Mendoza region, and each area highlights the fullness and typical character of its grape variety. The range consists of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, wines of remarkable intensity and brilliance, supported by vibrant acidity and balanced, gentle tannins. They are the result of patient and lengthy work and studies by winemaker Paul Hobbs, owner of Viña Cobos, on the terroir and the development of additional suitable vineyards and sites in the Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco region.
