Experience the profound wine culture from the ancient heart of Armenia for your enjoyment. Gevorkian Winery combines age‑old traditions with modern technology for top quality in every drop from this distant land. We present these treasures for discerning palates in our shop.

The origin of Gevorkian Winery

The vines grow in the Vayots Dzor region on barren soils of ancient lava on the mountain. These sites offer ideal conditions for dense and highly complex wines with a strong character shaped by nature. The vineyards lie at an impressive height of up to one thousand two hundred meters above the distant mirror of the sea. The extreme climate leads to a late harvest of the ripe fruit on the steep slope under the sun.

The grape varieties of Gevorkian Winery

The range includes rare varieties directly from the wild Caucasus for true connoisseurs of wine. These plants have successfully defied wind and heat on the hard rocks for many years. We showcase the diversity of the grapes in our wide selection:

1. Areni Noir delivers red wines with a fine texture and spicy notes for a festive meal.

2. Voskehat brings fresh white wines with the scent of pale blossoms and yellow fruits from the garden.

3. Haghtanak yields deep red drops with a firm core of tannin for long cellaring in the cellar.

4. Kangun serves as a base for elegant blends with lively acidity and a floral bouquet.

The special features of Gevorkian Winery

The team uses the Kakhani technique to increase the quality in the glass for all lovers of fine wines. The grapes are hung on strings in cool rooms for slow drying in the fresh air. The moisture disappears and the power of nature remains in the juice of the berries, resulting in full flavor. Maturation often takes place in old clay jugs called Karas without the use of wood. These amphorae lie deep in the earth, allowing the wines to mature coolly over many months.

• Drying on the rope concentrates the sugar in every small berry for more extract in the wine.

• Clay vessels allow a gentle supply of oxygen during the long maturation in the silence of the cellars.

• The wine acquires a velvety character without harsh notes for a soft feeling on the tongue.

• The coolness of the earth preserves the delicate fruit for enjoyment on an evening with good friends.

Gevorkian Winery grapes

The fruity world of Gevorkian Winery

The estate is renowned for excellent pomegranate wines for customers all over the world. These fruits ferment like real grapes into a very fine wine with a deep red color. The wines mature in oak barrels for more complexity on the palate and a fine structure. The taste is reminiscent of tart berries and subtle spices from the distant Orient for a journey of the senses. We keep this treasure ready for your private tasting in our depot for rapid shipping. Each bottle embodies the pride and history of an entire nation in the modern world of winegrowing.

Things to know about Gevorkian Winery
Why are grapes hanging on ropes from the ceiling at Gevorkian?
This is the so-called Kakhani method. It is a millennia-old Armenian technique that Gevorkian has revived. The ripe grape bunches are hung on strings and air-dried for months in special rooms. As the water evaporates, sugar, acidity, and aromas in the berries become more concentrated. The result is an extremely dense, extract-rich wine (as in the Ariats line), which in flavor is reminiscent of the Italian Amarone method but has a deeply Armenian soul.
What does Gevorkian have to do with a “polar bear” and Canada?
Gevorkian is the pioneer of Armenian ice wine (brand Anaïs). Since the climate in the Armenian highlands (Vayots Dzor) can become extremely cold, the winery uses these natural conditions to let the grapes freeze on the vine. The technique was refined following the Canadian model. What is special: while many ice wines worldwide are made from Riesling or Vidal, Gevorkian uses the ancient Armenian grape variety Voskehat, which gives the wine a unique profile of dried apricots and mountain herbs.
Why do some bottles look like real pomegranates?
The winery is the international market leader for high-quality pomegranate wine. In contrast to cheap fruit wines, Gevorkian uses a special fermentation process similar to that of grape wines in order to preserve the complex structure and antioxidants of the pomegranate. The iconic pomegranate-shaped bottles of the 365 series have become a global trademark of Armenian craftsmanship and combine design with regional identity.
What is the secret of the “Karas” wines at Gevorkian?
A large proportion of the premium wines is aged in Karas – traditional, egg-shaped clay amphorae. The secret lies in the porosity of the clay: it allows a minimal oxygen supply (micro-oxidation) without overwhelming the wine with woody notes (as in an oak barrel). Gevorkian partially buries these amphorae in the ground to keep the temperature naturally constant. The result is wines with an exceptionally velvety texture and very pure fruit.
