Herencia Altés - a childhood dream

A long time ago, the foundations were laid for the creation of the Herencia Altés project. For generations, the Altés family has been cultivating their vineyards around the village of Batea. These grapes are now to be given their own personality by means of handmade Spanish wines.
Although Terra Alta is a not so well known region - tucked away in the south-east of Catalonia and bordering Aragon and Valencia - it is one of the largest wine regions in Catalonia. Mainly due to the many old Garnatxa bush vines, this region is one of the best in Spain and produces wines with a special level of quality and authenticity.
The village of Batea was built on Roman and Moorish foundations, has a beautiful historic center, and especially the church is a sign of past splendor. For viticulture, Batea is the most important village in Terra Alta, with 50% of the production. Most of the grapes are sold to cooperatives or larger companies outside the region. With Herencia Altés, Núria Altés is fulfilling a dream of making Terra Alta more significant and the true qualities of these wonderful old vines more significant.

The vineyards are located within the municipality of Batea. The largest and oldest vineyard is Benufet. It is located at 450 meters above sea level, on one of the highest areas of Batea. The vines were already planted at the beginning of the 20th century. Today they are among the Garnatxa Blanca vines in Spain with the lowest and most concentrated yields.
