Kaapse Vonkel Brut Sparkling Wine from Simonsig Wine Estate is the first sparkling wine produced in South Africa using the méthode champenoise. Over a long tradition, an excellently multi-layered and nobly fruity sparkling wine has developed. It has a gentle straw-yellow color with lively rising bubbles that form a fine crown of foam at the rim.

This Brut is a South African Cap Classique with a complex bouquet of delicate floral and fruity aromas of ripe yellow apples and citrus fruits. Nuances of red berries and baked apple lend it complexity. Fresh, long-lasting and finely sparkling mousseux supports the full flavor on the full-bodied palate and provides a mouth-filling sensation before it flows into a persistently clean and dry finish.

Vinification of Kaapse Vonkel Brut Sparkling Wine from Simonsig Wine Estate

The hand-picked grapes of the cuvée made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are transferred into baskets. Pneumatic pressing is followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 15 - 16 °C with specially selected yeasts. The must of the Chardonnay grapes is fermented in French oak and brings complexity to the wine. Bottle fermentation here is not referred to as méthode champenoise but as méthode Cap Classique.

We recommend it with fresh oysters, pâté, roast chicken with honey, duck and desserts such as fruit tart, delicately creamy cakes or almond cake.
