Kaiken Malbec is a red wine from Argentina, with which Aurelio Montes - the mastermind behind Montes Wines in Chile - has fulfilled a long-cherished dream. With many years of winemaking experience and sensational sensitivity to terroir and vine, this fine wine was produced from Argentina's classic Malbec grape variety. The Kaiken wine meets the highest standards of character and complexity, without missing youthful elegance and variety of aromas
.In deep purple, the Montes Kaiken Malbec shines in the glass. Its lush fruit aromas unfold in the nose, reminiscent of dark berries, such as blueberries and blackcurrants, but also of ripe strawberries and dried plum. They are accompanied by fine spice and cocoa notes, pepper, coffee, vanilla and tobacco, which originate from the barrique ageing.
On the palate, this cake surprises red wine with its soft structure and excellent balance between fleshy tannins and the intense fruit of strawberries and blueberries. Its long-lasting, intense reverberation once again reflects Mendoza's timber development and unique terroir.
Cultivation and vinification of Kaiken Malbec
Aurelio Montes is a celebrated wine expert whose Chilean Montes wines have gained world fame. Together with three other wine experts, Chilean wines began to be produced in 1988, which clearly stood out from the standards of the time and earned him great praise in the old world. A new challenge drew him to Argentina in 2001, where Aurelio began buying vineyards for his cakes in the best areas such as Maipu, Cruz de Piedra, Ugarteche, Agrelo and the Uco Valley.
In 2003, the first vintage of Malbec Kaiken wine, a cuvée from Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, was finally launched, which was able to combine the terroir and climate of Mendoza. Kaiken Malbec reflects Aurelio Monte's premises of producing wines with character, elegance, expression and the highest quality.
Kaiken Malbec consists of 95% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, which adds a touch of elegance to the wine. The grapes come 100% from the vineyards of Kaiken Wines in the Agrelo zone 60 km from Mendoza. They are located at an altitude of 950 meters above sea level. The climate here is comparatively warm and dry, which means that the grapes have a higher sugar content and less thick and thus tannin-containing skins. The terroir has a layer of silt, clay and sand about 2 meters thick over rocks. Hot days follow the cool nights, let the grapes mature excellently.
All the reading material is introduced by hand and selected manually in the cellar. After one month of fermentation, 40% of the young wine is aged in French oak barriques for 6 months. The other 60% mature in steel tanks, so that the fruit aromas and soft tannins of Kaiken Malbec can develop optimally. After easy filtering and cuvéeing of the wine, it matures for at least 6 months in the bottle, so that the character and expressiveness of Malbec can fully develop.
Food recommendation for the Kaiken Malbec of Montes
Strong, well-seasoned game dishes are exceptionally well tolerated with the cake. He accompanies red meat, but also baked quails or pheasant excellently. This Malbec also harmonizes well with aromatic vegetable dishes and dark chocolate.
