The Mount Riley winery is located in New Zealand’s Wairau Valley, at the very north of the South Island. Mount Riley was named in its founding year 1992 after a mountain in the nearby Richmond Range. The family business is run by a team of father, daughter and son-in-law.
John, Amy & Matt = Mount Riley

John’s daughter Amy and his son-in-law Matt are the sixth generation of the family in Marlborough. John’s mother grew up here. He spent countless summers on his grandparents’ farm in the Wairau Valley. They were happy times. As a boy, John thought Marlborough was paradise, and he still thinks so today.
Wairau Valley – a special microclimate

The climate in Mount Riley’s vineyards is pleasantly warm, characterized by cool nights and low rainfall in summer and autumn. Together with the proximity to the sea and the mountains, these factors ensure a long ripening period for the grapes, making them particularly aromatic. The viticulture techniques here are both classical and modern, to obtain the best of both worlds and thus produce high-quality wines.
