Non-alcoholic wine – soberly considered a good thing

Non-alcoholic wine: The taste without the buzz

Non-alcoholic wine is a popular alternative for wine lovers who want to enjoy the full flavor of a fine beverage but wish to forgo the alcohol. This variant offers a wide range of flavors and qualities. It is increasingly popular among people who wish to enjoy alcohol-free for various reasons.

Alcohol-free during pregnancy

The production of non-alcoholic wine begins similarly to that of traditional wine. Ripe grapes are harvested and processed. The difference lies in the removal of alcohol before the product hits the market. There are various methods to remove the alcohol, including vacuum distillation, reverse osmosis, and other techniques to reduce the alcohol content to nearly zero. The process is intricate and requires considerable skill to keep the wine's flavor, aromas, and texture intact.

One of the main motivations for consuming non-alcoholic wine lies in the health benefits. People who are sensitive to alcohol, pregnant, taking medication, etc., find non-alcoholic wine a good alternative. This allows them to enjoy social occasions and festive moments without having to forgo the pleasure of a good wine.

Another advantage of non-alcoholic wine is that it contains fewer calories. This makes it a healthier option without diminishing the culture of wine tasting. Moreover, non-alcoholic wine has the same antioxidant properties as its alcoholic counterpart. These can help protect the body from free radicals.

The variety of flavors in non-alcoholic wine is remarkable. From fruity rosés to full-bodied reds and sparkling whites, there is something for every palate. Wine producers have perfected their techniques to replicate the aromas and textures of traditional wine, offering consumers an authentic tasting experience.

Non-alcoholic wine is a good option for many. However, it cannot completely replace the experience of an alcoholic wine. Alcohol not only contributes to the taste but also gives the wine body and texture. Nevertheless, non-alcoholic wine is gaining in quality and popularity.

Overall, non-alcoholic wine is an exciting development in the wine industry. It appeals to a broad range of consumers. It is a welcome addition to the market, whether one abstains from alcohol for personal, health, or social reasons. Non-alcoholic wine offers an exciting journey into the world of flavors. Completely without the buzz.

Indulge in the freedom with non-alcoholic wine from all corners of the world. Non-alcoholic wine lacks nothing except alcohol. Well, a little is always allowed. According to EU law, a wine may contain a maximum of 0.5% alcohol by volume to be classified as non-alcoholic wine. However, this mark is usually significantly undershot. According to guidelines, this wine is then considered non-alcoholic.

The methods for removing alcohol are diverse. Reverse osmosis, thin-film evaporation, vacuum distillation make wine non-alcoholic. Whether red wine, rosé, white wine, cuvée, or sparkling wine. Whether sweet or dry. The only important thing is that the typical taste and enjoyment end up in the glass. Will that work? Give it a try! Alcohol-free wine has it going on and fewer calories than regular wine.

How is non-alcoholic wine made?

There are three methods used in the production of non-alcoholic wine. The three types of de-alcoholization differ not only in the method but also in the outcome.

  • Thin-film evaporation: The wine is heated to 78 °C, causing the alcohol to evaporate. Many know this from mulled wine, which should not be heated above 80 °C. However, the goal of thin-film evaporation is the removal of alcohol through heating. The downside is that the aromas also suffer. Therefore, some grape juice is added to compensate, but this only somewhat saves the wine.
  • Reverse osmosis: The wine is passed through a fine separating layer, catching the alcohol molecules. Reverse osmosis is a lengthy process. It is not very gentle on the wine. The taste can be affected.
  • Vacuum distillation: The most common method for producing alcohol-free wines is vacuum distillation, which has been in use since 1908. Carl Jung found that alcohol behaves differently in a vacuum than in fresh air. The boiling point is significantly lower at 27 °C and even below the fermentation temperature of the wine. Light heating is therefore sufficient to remove the alcohol. Thus, the aroma remains untouched. Fast, gentle, and clean for alcohol-free wine. Vacuum distillation makes it possible.

Does non-alcoholic wine taste good?

As the three methods show, de-alcoholizing wine can influence the taste. If a non-alcoholic wine does not taste typically like wine, it may have gone through reverse osmosis or thin-film evaporation.

Which non-alcoholic wine tastes good?

Therefore, make sure that your wine was produced using the gentle vacuum distillation. This way, the wine tastes fantastic even without alcohol. You will find a variety of these wines on VINELLO.
