A proud bull adorns the bottles, the solera process is at home here and the Osborne family is still dedicated to producing first-class sherry, brandy and wine to this day.

Osborne

Osborne from El Puerto

El Puerto de Santa María in the Sherry Triangle owes its reputation in part to the British merchant Thomas Osborne, who, with the export business he founded in 1772, created a brand that is known and loved worldwide.

For over 200 years now, Osborne has stood for high-quality brandies and spirits. Throughout its history, the company has been steadily expanded, first with the production of brandy, and later with investments in the Montecillo and Malpica wineries. The great popularity of Osborne sherry experienced an outright boom in the Spanish market, which did not stop at England and the United States of America. Today Osborne, with the Toro de Osborne, stands as a symbol for first-class brandy from Spain and offers, with a wide range of products, the right drop for every taste.

Toro de Osborne

The Toro de Osborne - more than a trademark

The family business, now run by the 8th generation, employs more than 900 people worldwide and sells its products in 40 countries. The manufacturer’s trademark is a bull. The memorable symbol, designed in 1956, embodies the temperament, expressiveness and character of Osborne products. A total of 90 steel Osborne bulls, which since 1997 have been under monument protection as integral parts of the Spanish landscape, now adorn Spain’s highways and mark important locations in the local landscape.

Osborne sherry, wine and port

The world-famous Osborne spirits come from its own vineyards, planted with the Palomino Fino and Pedro Ximénez grape varieties. Despite the same ingredients, the family company has the expertise to produce sherry and brandy in a wide range of flavor profiles – from dry to extremely sweet. Its flagship, Brandy de Jerez, undergoes the solera process after distillation in copper stills and column stills. This system differs fundamentally from the methods used in other countries.

Osborne casks

The solera process

In the solera process at the Osborne distillery, casks of different vintages are stacked on top of each other in a pyramid. The base consists of older vintages, the top cask of the youngest. Around one third of the contents is removed from the casks beforehand. Gradually, the youngest cask is poured into the casks below and blended with the older rum. While the brandy continues to mature in this new cask, part of the previous contents moves down to the next cask level, so that in the end a blend of different vintages is created. Therefore, with Osborne brandy produced by the solera process, no exact vintage can be determined.

Osborne Brandy de Jerez and special spirits

The variety of spirits from Osborne includes, in addition to Brandy de Jerez, amber-colored sherry specialties and wine. Some classics among them are:

  • Osborne Veterano: The Osborne classic is probably the best-known spirit from Spain. The sherry matures in the traditional solera process, so that, alongside aromas of plums and grapes, notes of oak wood provide harmonious enjoyment.
  • Osborne 103 Negra: Pure brandy flavor is revealed by 103 Negra Brandy de Jerez Solera Reserva, a harmony of the finest grapes and intense maturation for pure enjoyment.
  • Tawny Port: This port wine made from the Tempranillo, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca grape varieties expresses sweet and full-bodied notes of honey and wood. The Tawny Port matures in traditional pipes casks with a capacity of 550 liters.
  • Conde de Osborne Dali: In addition to the splendid contents aged over many years, the packaging also plays an important role here. For none other than Salvador Dalí gave the bottle its appearance. A real eye-catcher to accompany sherry.
  • Carlos I Imperial X.O: Gran Reserva: A blend of particularly exquisite wine distillates that mature for over 20 years in white oak casks. A top-class brandy for special occasions.
