Prunotto Cantina in Bussia - from cooperative to top winery
Prunotto was founded in 1904 as a cooperative "Ai Vini delle Langhe", at the signing, besides the notary and other personalities of the region, Alfredo Prunotto and many small local wine growers were present. The first harvest as a cooperative takes place in 1905, followed by years of ups and downs and the 1st World War. in 1922 the cooperative has to be renewed, but many winegrowers leave, a serious crisis occurs. Alfredo Prunotto, together with his wife Luigina, decides to take over the winery and continue it under his own name. With passion and dedication, the couple dedicate themselves to the expansion of their company and the success soon achieved on an international level proves them right. Prunotto's wines are sold in Italy and even make it to the new markets overseas, South America and the USA.

Prunotto's heirs
When Alfredo Prunotto retired from active business in 1956, he handed over his winery to his oenologist and friend Beppe Colla, who continued to run it in a threesome with Carlo Filiberti and his brother Tino Colla. Already at that time Prunotto manages to identify particularly favorable sites for the production of crus that lead to the production of Barolo Bussia and Barbera d'Alba Pian Romualdo.
Subsequently, the renowned Piedmontese architect Ugo della Piana built a new winery, which is still the company's headquarters.
Prunotto and Antinori
At the end of the 80s, the Prunotto winery enters into a commercial partnership with the Marchesi Antinori for the distribution of its wines. When the Colla brothers withdrew from production at the beginning of the 90s, the Antinori family followed in their footsteps and continued to run the traditional company with the same high quality standards that Alfredo Prunotto had set at the time.
Since then, the winery has been managed by Albiera Antinori, eldest daughter of Marchese Piero Antinori, with her personality and passion for wine. New vineyards are acquired, such as the Costamìole vineyard, the vineyard in the cru site Bussia, one of the most prestigious in the region, vineyards in Calliano for the cultivation of new grape varieties such as Albarossa and Syrah, the single vineyard Bric Turot, as well as vineyards for the production of Moscato.
In total, Prunotto today counts about 50 hectares between the Langhe and Monferrato vineyards. It cultivates the autochthonous grape varieties of the wine-growing area, and also carries out studies on grape varieties and vineyards and invests in the qualitative development of the vineyards.
