More information about Barbaresco DOCG - Prunotto

The barrel-aged Barbaresco from the wine-growing region of Piedmont presents itself in a bright ruby red in the glass. When swirling the glass, you can perceive a perfect balance in this red wine, as it is neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like on the glass walls. In the glass, this red wine from Prunotto offers aromas of morello cherries, blueberries, blackberries, black cherries and plums, complemented by gingerbread spice, cocoa bean and vanilla. The Prunotto Barbaresco presents itself to wine lovers as wonderfully dry. This red wine is never coarse or austere, as you would expect from an iconic wine segment. This melting, velvety and dense red wine is balanced and multi-layered on the palate. Thanks to the balanced fruit acidity, the Barbaresco flatters the palate with a velvety feel without lacking in juicy liveliness. The finish of this youthful red wine from the Piedmont wine-growing region, or more precisely from Barbaresco DOCG, is ultimately delightful with a remarkable aftertaste. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets from the marl-dominated soils.

Vinification of Barbaresco from Prunotto

The basis for this balanced Barbaresco from Piedmont is grapes from the Nebbiolo grape variety. In Piedmont, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on marl soils. Naturally, Barbaresco is also determined by the climate and the Barbaresco DOCG winegrowing style. This Italian wine can literally be described as a wine of the Old World, which presents itself with exceptional elegance. The ripening of the grapes for this Nebbiolo wine is influenced to a very large extent by the climate of the growing region. In Piedmont, the grapes thrive in a rather cool climate, which is reflected in particularly long and even grapes and a rather moderate must weight. The grapes for this red wine from Italy are harvested exclusively by hand when they are perfectly ripe. After the grape harvest, the grapes are transported to the winery as quickly as possible. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Fermentation then takes place in small wooden vats at controlled temperatures. At the end of fermentation, the Barbaresco is aged for 24 months in oak barrels. The ageing in oak barrels is followed by extensive bottle ageing, which makes this red wine even more complex.

Dining recommendations for the Barbaresco from Prunotto

This red wine from Italy is best enjoyed at a temperature of 15 - 18°C with red onions stuffed with couscous and apricots, ossobuco or lamb ragout with chickpeas and dried figs.
