The winery Rudi Pichler has existed since 1731 and is one of the up-and-coming top producers of the Wachau in Austria.
Weingut Rudi Pichler - traditional winery with top-class wines
Its sites are located in the World Heritage Site around Joching, Wösendorf, Weißenkirchen and Mautern. On the 15 hectares of vineyard area, mainly characterful white wines are produced from an astonishingly large portfolio, considering that we are talking about a relatively small winery. In addition to Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, Rudi Pichler cultivates Pinot Blanc and the usually full-bodied Roter Veltliner.

Shortened fermentation, prolonged enjoyment
The winemaker understands the art of giving wines from every category their own character. The Federspiel from Grüner Veltliner, for example, is always a favorite among wine connoisseurs. It combines an animating drinking style with the classic varietal expression of the Wachau. With the great Smaragd wines, Rudi Pichler, as well as the next generation consisting of Theresa and Rudi junior, succeeds in beautifully working out the terroir. If you give these wines some time and enjoy them only after a few years, the palate is all the more rewarded. Rudi Pichler selectively relies on appropriate maceration times. The fermentation period, which in past years tended to be longer, has now been shortened again. It was found that this simply suits the desired style better. The result is nuanced top-class wines with a very individual character.

Room for uniqueness at Rudi Pichler
The modern winery is worth seeing not only from an architectural point of view. Since its ceremonial opening in 2004, the building has also offered the dedicated winemaker the space to produce his unique wines under ideal conditions. The new, characterful range from Rudi Pichler is characterized by an immensely mineral radiance, tautness and depth of aroma. The different terroirs are expressed with great precision. It is a pleasure to explore these wines; particularly noteworthy are the outstanding Grüner Veltliners and the Riesling Achleithen. The Falstaff editorial team chose Rudi Pichler as “Winemaker of the Year 2010”. A wine enjoyment that is truly worthwhile.
