Southern Right Pinotage - Hamilton Russell

Hamilton Russell's Southern Right Pinotage from South Africa's Walker Bay wine region in Cape South Coast is a varietally pure, intense and complex red wine.

In the glass, this wine shimmers a rich ruby red with purple highlights. The expressive bouquet caresses the nose with complex aromatics. Red berry fruits meet hints of blood orange and roasted dates - finely underlaid with spicy notes. On the palate, this South African red wine is wonderfully smooth with dark fruit richness and mineral nuances. The tannin framework is perfectly integrated and gives this wine its complexity. The finish awaits with a wonderful length. 

The name Southern Right is derived from the protected Southern Right Whale that lives in the subpolar and temperate seas of the southern hemisphere.

Vinification of the Southern Right Pinotage

The Pinotage grapes grow in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and Waker Bay sites on soils that are rich in clay, rock and slate. 

Once the harvest arrives at the winery of Hamilton Russell, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks. This red wine undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation. Then this wine is aged for 9 months in wooden barrels of French oak (volume 228 liters and 400 liters). 

Food recommendation for the Hamilton Russell Pinotage Southern Right

This dry red wine from South Africa is a delight with fillet of beef on mashed potatoes with crunchy beans, pork tenderloin with grilled vegetables or with selected sausage specialties.
