Taylor's Port's Tawny 40 Years Old is the result of exceptionally intense and varied enjoyment. This port combines the grape varieties Tinta Amarela, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barocca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Cao.
Due to the very long barrel maturity of 40 years, this port shimmers in a warm mahogany brown with greenish edge shades. The nose is pampered by a sweet, spicy aroma - freshly ground coffee with dried fruit and orange peels unfolds. On the palate, this port wine gains caramelized notes, accompanied by fine orange jam. With tremendous power, the palate is wonderfully taken by this wine. The tannins are perfectly woven in and still clearly noticeable even after the long maturity. In addition to the wonderful sweetness, this port has an incomparable freshness. The finale comes with a great length and spicy aftertaste of coffee and liquorice.
Vinification of Taylor's Port Tawny 40 Years old
Aged Tawny primarily demands the art of blending and wise foresight of the development of wine during its long ageing in barrels. Because every Tawny is composed from the beginning for its specific age: 10, 20, 30 or 40 years and must always have its characteristic style and taste. Even if this port is composed of always different wines and vintages.
The grapes for this wine are harvested exclusively by hand and brought to the wine cellar of Taylor's Port, destemmed there and fermented in open stainless steel tanks. As soon as half of the sugar has been fermented, the fermentation process is stopped by the addition of high-percentage distillate. This preserves this wine's natural residual sweetness. Finally, this port wine matures for 40 years in wooden barrels until it is filled onto the bottle.
Food recommendation for the 40 Years Old Taylor's Tawny
Enjoy this port pure and let yourself be pampered by the multifaceted wealth. Or accompany this wine with desserts with nut crisp and caramel or mature cheeses (pecorino, parmesan and Manchego).
