The Tokara Wine Estate is located at the foot of the Simonsberg in the famous South African wine region of Stellenbosch. In addition to the winery, there is also a high-class restaurant and an art exhibition.

Tokara Winery - Wines from the sandstone rock
In the center of the Cape Winelands rises the Simonsberg, an impressive rock massif, which was named after South Africa's first governor Simon van der Stel. At 1399 meters high, it is visible from afar and also offers excellent conditions for viticulture.
The slowly sloping southern slope offers an ideal angle of sunlight, and it is here that the vineyards and olive groves of Tokara are found. Already in the 17th century people recognized this valuable location and cultivated wine here.
The terroirs of Tokara Estate
The vineyards of Tokara extend from 350 m to 550 m above sea level. The soil is characterized by the mountains of the region, of which Table Mountain is probably the most famous. Sandstone and granite form the foundation on which the estate's vines grow. The soil composition helps the Tokara wines to have a good structure and prolonged finish.
In addition, the estate has other vineyards in the Elgin Valley, a rather cooler region at Sir Lowry's Pass. Here, mainly Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are grown, which have a very special fragrance due to the sandstone.

At the Tokara estate
Tokara offers three different series today:
- TokaraPremium - cuvées of different vineyards
- TokaraReserve - wines from single vineyards
- TokaraDirector's Reserve - wines from the best single vineyards blended into a unique cuvée
In addition to wine, Tokara produces olive oil in a classic Mediterranean manner, which is used in the in-house restaurant. Moreover, on the estate you can find a continuous art exhibition, as well as a sculpture garden.
