Glatzer - the Danube, the sun and the wine

Carnuntum, the area east of Vienna and south of the Danube, is a climatically favorable region that the Celts and Romans already appreciated as a wine-growing area. Especially when Emperor Probus ended the Italian wine monopoly and planted quality varieties along the Danube, the region experienced its first flowering as a wine-growing area. This is evidenced by a large number of excavations. This tradition still characterizes the area today.

In 1987, the gates to the Glatzer Winery were opened - at that time, winemaker and owner Walter Glatzer owned 4.5 hectares of vineyards. Today, Glatzer 's wines are internationally renowned, have received numerous awards, and the winery has grown to a size of 24.5 hectares. Over the years, the quality of the wines has always remained outstanding. The following grape varieties, among others, grow in the vineyards: 

• Grüner Veltliner
• Pinot Blanc
• Sauvignon Blanc
• Zweigelt
• Saint Laurent

Tradition and innovation at the Glatzer Winery

Glatzer's wines are shaped by the unique terroir of Carnuntum as much as by their upbringing. The stony limestone and loess soils and the Pannonian microclimate together with the influence of the Danube provide the right basic conditions for viticulture on the one hand, while on the other hand the careful vineyard and cellar work contributes to high-quality wines full of character. At the Glatzer Winery, tradition is combined with innovation. Centuries-old methods are implemented here with the help of modern technology, so that wines with a clear varietal and regional character can be created, which always show the distinctive signature of the winemaker Walter Glatzer.
