The winery Boekenhoutskloof was founded in 1776 and is picturesquely situated in the very back corner of the Franschhoek Valley.

The wine cellar of Boekenhoutskloof

A little story from the Franschhoek Valley

The name of the winery translates as “Gorge of the Boekenhout.” Boekenhout is a beech native to South Africa that is highly valued in furniture making.

In 1997, Boekenhoutskloof was completely restored and the vineyards were replanted with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon and Viognier.

The man behind the Boekenhoutskloof wines

Marc Kent is managing partner, technical director and driving force of Boekenhoutskloof. He is known for his unconventional approaches and his willingness to experiment, without losing sight of quality on every level and in every detail. In addition, Marc Kent is a board member of the Franschhoek Wine Valley tourism association and has headed the Vignerons de Franschhoek several times.

The flagship

A slender lady adorns the logo of Boekenhoutskloof. In her hands she carries the dove of peace and hope. She is the guardian of Boekenhoutskloof and stands for intrinsic quality. Formerly, this lady was a symbol of the Cape of Good Hope.

Boekenhoutskloof enchants the connoisseur with the wine ranges:

  • The 7 Chairs
  • The Chooclate Block
  • The Wolftrap
  • The Porcupuine Ridge

The main focus is on the Syrah grape variety. In working with this red wine variety, Boekenhoutskloof is a true specialist, as they demonstrate with the ranges The 7 Chairs and The Chooclate Block. The brand The Wolftrap stands for Rhône-style cuvées. With the wines of The Porcupuine Ridge, Boekenhoutskloof has succeeded in convincing many wine lovers around the world with everyday wines.
