When most people think of the Mosel, they think of Mosel-Saar-Ruwer and all the prestigious wineries that lie from Braunberg beyond Trier to the Mosel Gate. But no one proves more impressively than Clemens Busch that the Moselle also produces great wines far downstream.

Where Bernkastel and the terraced Moselle kiss each other

Clemens Busch's winery is located in Pünderich directly at the transition of the Terrassenmosel to the Bernkastel area. Since 1986, Rita and Clemens Busch have been farming here in harmony with the strict guidelines of organic viticulture, which they naturally had certified early on. In the meantime, they have even become part of the Respekt Biodyn association, which is dedicated to biodynamic viticulture in a similar way to demeter, but does not proceed as dogmatically as the latter.
From 1.5 to 18 hectares in 30 years

Clemens Busch has come a long way in 40 years. At that time, Clemens' cellar was relocated to the flood-proof part of Pünderich. This is picturesquely located in the center of an almost perfect ancient theater that is the Pünderich Marienburg. This perfect site produces first-class Riesling grapes, which in the meantime Florian Busch, son of Clemens and Rita, also refines into the best wines.
Quality continues in the cellar

Here it is important to bring what the Buschs have created in the vineyard into the bottle as unadulterated as possible. Gentle grape processing, long maceration times, exclusively spontaneous fermentation and long pressing times at low pressure ensure the best wines. Final clarification exclusively by sedimentation and the renunciation of fining agents contribute their share. Finally, some of the wines are aged for more than 10 months, mostly in traditional barrels with a volume of 1,000 liters.
"Not only the different slate soils, but also the special microclimates play a major role here."

Pündericher Marienburg - the heart of the matter
The most important and also the largest part of Clemens Busch's now 18 hectares of vineyards is located in the Pündericher Marienburg site. Almost the entire slope on the opposite bank of the Moselle is the Marienburg site. Once consisting of individual parcels, the Marienburg is now a contiguous site. Here Clemens Busch finds a wide variety of slate soils, which are also found in his local wines from the gray or red Scheifer.
Sites within sites - preserving Marienburg's diversity
In order to emphasize the fine terroir differences within the Marienburg site, the corresponding wines at Clemens Busch bear the old parcel designations
- Fahrlay
- Falkenlay
- Raffes
