In the glass, the Gonzalez O'Donnell Blend from Hacienda del Plata offers a dense purple color. With a bit of side lay, the Bordeaux glass reveals a charming brick hue at the rims. If you give it some air in the wine glass by swirling it, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, which shows up in church windows at the rim of the glass. To the nose, this Hacienda del Plata red wine shows all sorts of blackberries, black currants, plums, violets and red currant. As if that were not already impressive, the aging in small wooden barrels adds other aromas such as smoky.
This red wine from Hacienda del Plata is just right for wine drinkers who like it absolutely dry. The Gonzalez O'Donnell Blend is already quite close to this, it was vinified with just 2.2 grams of residual sugar. This powerful red wine presents itself full-bodied and complex on the palate. Due to the balanced fruit acidity, the Gonzalez O'Donnell Blend flatters the palate with a velvety feel, without lacking freshness. The finish of this very ripening red wine from the wine-growing region of Mendoza, more precisely from Luján de Cuyo, finally convinces with exceptional reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets of the gravel-dominated soils.
Vinification of the Gonzalez O'Donnell Blend from Hacienda del Plata
The powerful Gonzalez O'Donnell Blend from Argentina is a cuvée vinified from the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. In Mendoza, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of gravel. At the time of optimal ripeness, the grapes for the Gonzalez O'Donnell Blend are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective machinery. After the hand harvest, the grapes are immediately sent to the winery. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Fermentation then takes place in small wood at controlled temperatures. Vinification is followed by aging on the fine lees for several months before the wine is finally drawn into bottles.
