Maybach - made in Germany

Maybach wines stand for high quality wines from Germany. The wines are produced by Weinkellerei Peter Mertes, a company based in Bernkastel-Kues in the Mosel Valley. The winery has existed since 1924 and was founded by the winemaker of the same name. Peter Mertes' goal at that time was to make wine accessible to everyone and thus to arouse enthusiasm for the beverage. The Mertes family has been active in viticulture since the 12th century.

To a glass of Maybach

Approximately 100 years later, the Peter Mertes winery has over 400 employees and sells brands such as Maybach, Bree, Käfer, Biorebe and Deinhard. Almost 100 hectares of vineyards belong to Peter Mertes today.

The grape varieties of Maybach wines

Wines from Maybach are available as white, rosé and red wines. Accordingly, there is a selection of grape varieties which are used:

  • Chardonnay
  • Pinot Gris
  • Rivaner
  • Portugieser
  • Riesling
  • Sauvignon Blanc
  • Pinot Noir
  • Pinot Blanc

Most of the Maybach wines are single-varietal, but there are also individual cuvées. The wines are vinified dry as well as feinherb, lieblich or sweet. For the conscious connoisseur, there is also a non-alcoholic white and rosé wine.

Commitment to the Moselle - Peter Mertes and Maybach

An important concern for the Peter Mertes winery is the preservation of the historically unique Moselle winegrowing region with its steep slopes and many small individual winegrowers. Peter Mertes works together with an association called "Das Blaue Band" (The Blue Ribbon), which unites small winegrowers, and buys their grapes from them. Instead of being absorbed into large cooperatives, the vintners remain independent and can represent their interests through the association, so that the cooperation is advantageous for both sides.

By buying Maybach wines, you support this philosophy and actively contribute to the preservation of the wine-growing region.
