The powerful Rubicon Stellenbosch from the pen of Meerlust Wine Estate shimmers into the glass with a dense purple red. Tilting the glass a bit, a transition of color towards garnet red can be seen at the edges of this barrel-aged wine. When swirling the glass, this red wine reveals a high density and richness, which is evident in distinct church windows at the rim of the glass. To the nose, this Meerlust Wine Estate red wine presents all manner of lavender, plum, black currant, lilac and mulberry. As if that wasn't already impressive, other aromas such as cinnamon, vanilla and lovage join in due to the aging in small wooden barrels.

Due to its present fruit acidity, the Rubicon Stellenbosch reveals itself impressively fresh and lively on the palate. In the finish, this very storable red wine from the Coastal winegrowing region finally inspires with considerable length. Again, hints of mulberry and lilac show up. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the clay-dominated soils join in.

Vinification of the Meerlust Wine Estate Rubicon Stellenbosch

This powerful red wine from South Africa is vinified from the grape varieties Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in the Coastal Region. The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of clay. After the hand harvest, the grapes quickly reach the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. Then fermentation takes place in small wood at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the Rubicon Stellenbosch is aged for another 21 months in oak barrels.

This South African is best enjoyed tempered at 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to stuffed peppers, braised chicken in red wine or boeuf bourguignon.
