More information about Merindol Syrah - Simonsig

The Merindol Syrah from Simonsig shines in a strong, velvety cherry red. It smells opulently of ripe blackberries, black currants, black cherries and licorice. The complex taste is reminiscent of vanilla, mocha and cinnamon, paired with black pepper. Well-integrated tannins, full body and a lingering finish confirm the quality of this great wine.

The founders of Stellenbosch's Simonsig Estate, the Malan family, are originally from the southern French village of Merindol.

Food recommendation for the Merindol Syrah from Simonsig

We recommend this red wine with meat dishes such as beef, meat skewers, tuna and aged cheeses.

Vinification of the Merindol Syrah from Stellenbosch

The Syrah grapes were destemmed and crushed before a 48-hour cold maceration followed. This was followed by a controlled fermentation at a maximum of 28°C with flashover to allow sufficient color and tannin to be released from the skins. The aging followed in French barriques.
