Welcome to Stachlburg Castle Winery
Schlossweingut Stachlburg is a renowned winery with a long history and a passion for excellent wine. Since its founding in 1870, the winery has earned a reputation for its high-quality wines that reflect the terroir and tradition of the region.
Founded and run by wine experts
Schlossweingut Stachlburg was founded in 1870 and has been run by the Baron von Kripp family ever since. Generation after generation, the von Kripp family has passed on their knowledge and experience, keeping wine production at the highest level.
The winery in the region of South Tyrol
Schlossweingut Stachlburg is located in the picturesque region of South Tyrol in Italy. This region is characterized by its breathtaking scenery, alpine climate and ideal conditions for viticulture. The vineyards stretch along the slopes of the surrounding mountains and benefit from the cool breezes and abundant hours of sunshine.
The vines thrive on a variety of soils known for their distinctive characteristics. Soils include limestone, shale and porphyry sand. These diverse soil types contribute to the complexity and finesse of the wines, giving them their distinctive character.
Variety of cultivated grape varieties
Schlossweingut Stachlburg grows a wide range of grape varieties to offer wines with different flavor profiles and styles. The grape varieties grown include:
- Riesling
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Gewürztraminer
- Kerner
- Pinot Grigio
- Vernatsch
The grape varieties are carefully selected and cultivated according to the highest quality standards. Stachlburg has been certified organic for many years and has submitted to the strict regulations of Bioland. The grapes are harvested by hand and gently processed to preserve the full potential of the grape varieties. The result is wines of exceptional quality that reflect the personality of the winery and the region. What stands out most at Stachlburg is the avoidance of unnecessary "tinkering" with the wines. Thus, care is also taken to add as little sulfur as possible. Often only half the permitted amount is used.
Single vineyard sites of Stachlburg - Baron von Kripp
In the first-class vineyards of South Tyrol, Baron von Kripp cultivates exceptional single vineyard sites in the communities of Parcines at 650 meters, as well as Andriano at 300 meters.
Single vineyards with a special terroir
Schlossweingut Stachlburg has some unique single vineyard sites that are known for their special terroir characteristics. These sites contribute significantly to the diversity and quality of the wines. The Partschins sites are located in the immediate vicinity of the winery and are characterized by their calcareous soils and an almost Mediterranean climate. The grapes grown in these sites benefit from the warm sun and cool nights, resulting in a perfect balance between fruitiness and acidity in the wines.
Another important single vineyard site in the municipality of Andrian is the site Wolfsthurn around the castle of the same name. This site is located near the picturesque village of Andrian and is characterized by clay and limestone soils. The wines from this site are characterized by their elegance, finesse and minerality, which are shaped by the unique terroir.
