Tawny 10 Years Old - Taylor's Port
Prices incl. VAT plus shipping costs
The Tawny 10 Years Old from Taylor's Port matured 10 years in old barriques with 620-litre capacity and is vinified from the grape varieties Tinta Amarela, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barocca and Tinta Cao.
In the glass this port shines in tan tones with brick-red reflections. The sweetish bouquet is extremely complex: oven-fresh prunes are combined with figs, quince jelly and a hint of honey. This is accompanied by subtle hints of herbs and spices. These notes can also be found in the taste, where they harmonise with a fruity, surprisingly fresh acidity and nut notes. This port wine has a lot of tension, strength and liveliness, which last into the long, balanced and very elegant finish.
Vinification of Taylor's Port Tawny 10 Years Old
Matured Tawny with age indication requires first of all the art of blending and wise foresight on the evolution of the wine during its long maturing period in the barrel. Each Tawny is composed from the beginning for its specific age: 10, 20, 30 or 40 years and must always have its characteristic style and taste. Even if this port is always composed from different wines and vintages.
The grapes for this wine are harvested exclusively by hand and brought to the Taylor's Port cellar, where they are destemmed and fermented in open stainless steel tanks. As soon as half of the sugar is fermented, the fermentation process is stopped by adding high-proof distillate. This preserves the natural residual sweetness of this wine. Finally this Port wine matures for 10 years in wooden barrels, until it is filled on the bottle.
