Vinification of Niepoort Tawny 20 Years Old Port
The hand-picked grapes come from the single vineyards Vinha da Pisca, Vale do Pinhão and Ferrão, from vines over 60 years old.
Following traditional methods, the harvested grapes are trodden by foot in lagares and also fermented in them. This Port matures for many years in small wooden barrels with a capacity of 550 liters (pipas). The barrels are stored in the wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. Up to 50 different wines can be found in this Tawny, ranging in age from 10 to 50 years. The result is a Port wine with an average age of 20 years. The blending is carried out by the Niepoort master blender, José Nogueira.
