In Honor of the Basques
Los Vascos is a Chilean winery that has been owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) since 1988. Los Vascos translates as “The Basques.” However, the Rothschild family did not decide on this estate immediately, but researched the potential of the local wines, tasted many wines, and visited the terroirs with their characteristics.
The Choice of Los Vascos
Due to its proximity to the sea, the exceptional soil, the ideal weather conditions (intense sunshine – low risk of frost), and the sufficient water sources, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) chose the winery Viñas Los Vascos in Chile.

Everything Anew
Very extensive investments were made under the supervision of the technical director of Château Lafite Rothschild. Among other things:
- Restructuring of the estate
- New planting program
- Deliberate reduction of yields
- Safeguarding of water resources
Step by step, the Los Vascos estate was expanded and modernized. Only in this way can one meet the new requirements for vinification and maturation. Most recently, the guest house was built in traditional Chilean style to welcome visitors to the Los Vascos estate.

Los Vascos Today
All the research, modernization, and investments have paid off. For Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) had the right intuition that Los Vascos had the potential to produce fine wines. The unique terroir gives the wines their character. The pursuit of excellence also requires passion and time – and Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) is very happy to contribute both.
