More information about Ashbourne Sandstone - Hamilton Russell

Ashbourne Sandstone by Hamilton Russell from the Western Cape displays a bright, light yellow color in the glass. When swirling the wine glass, you can perceive a perfect balance in this white wine, as it neither appears watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like on the glass walls. This South African cuvée reveals wonderfully expressive notes of peaches, lemons and ripe apple in the glass. In addition, there are hints of minerality.

Hamilton Russell Ashbourne Sandstone presents itself to the wine lover as pleasantly dry. This white wine never appears coarse or austere, as one might expect from a wine in the premium and single-vineyard segment. Balanced and complex, this light white wine presents itself on the palate. On the finish, this wine from the Western Cape winegrowing region delights with good length. Again, hints of lemon and peach appear.

Vinification of Ashbourne Sandstone by Hamilton Russell

The basis for the balanced Ashbourne Sandstone from South Africa is grapes from the Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon varieties. After being hand-picked, the grapes are brought to the winery as quickly as possible. There they are sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. After fermentation, the wine is aged for a few months on the fine lees before it is finally bottled.

Food recommendation for Hamilton Russell Ashbourne Sandstone

This white wine from South Africa is best enjoyed moderately chilled at 11 - 13°C. It is perfectly suited as an accompanying wine to fried trout with ginger-pear, fruity endive salad or asparagus salad with quinoa.
