Auslese Wines (87)

According to German wine law, an Auslese wine is a predicate wine vinified from fully ripe grapes. The character and quality of an Auslese wine is defined by the ripeness of the berries and their sugar content at the time of harvest.

Beerenauslesen (german for: "selected harvest of berries") are rare, elaborately produced wine specialities. Their characteristic features are their rich, natural sweetness as well as fine honey notes with low alcohol content. Beerenauslese wines often show a deep golden colour with associations of ripe honey or amber. With good storage they can mature optimally in the bottle for many decades.

In Germany and Austria, Beerenauslesen are special quality wines (until 2007/2008: quality wine with distinction), whose production and quality standards are regulated by the wine law.
