The powerful Banyuls Rouge Bila-Haut from France is a single varietal wine made from the Grenache grape variety. In Roussillon, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of schist. What is unusual about the origin of this top wine from M. Chapoutier is that the grapes grow on stone terraces in Banyuls (FR). However, this traditional way of vineyard cultivation is very costly and time-consuming and therefore rarely found anymore. At the time of optimal ripeness, the grapes for Banyuls Rouge Bila-Haut are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective machines.
