The Bersano Winery was founded at the beginning of the 20th century in Nizza Monferrato, in the heart of the Barbera d'Asti production area.
Bersano Winery – How It All Began
In 1935, Arturo Bersano became cellar master in what had until then been a family-run business. He focused on the three great grape varieties of Piedmont:
- Barbera
- Nebbiolo and
- Bracchetto.
His work in the cellar and in the vineyards, his inexhaustible pioneering and innovative spirit, and his inspiration quickly paid off; quality wines were created that soon became the distinctive hallmark of the winery. True to Arturo Bersano’s motto:
“If you want to drink well, get yourself a vineyard”
The Tradition Continues at Bersano
For almost thirty years now, the Massimelli and Soave families have been running the company, following the example of Arturo Bersano: the cascine, where quality grapes are produced, play an important role, modern yet without losing sight of tradition. Today, the wine company Bersano is one of the most important producers in Piedmont.

In the Cellar
Even though almost a century has passed and winemaking techniques have become more modern, Bersano is aware that the “ways” and “times” of winemaking have not changed.
From gentle pressing to fermentation and maturation, tradition is observed at every step. Special attention is paid to maturation in wood, as this is what makes the wines of Bersano so unique.
The Barrels
Bersano works with large casks made of Slavonian oak and tonneaux made of French oak from Allier. Thanks to the optimal temperature and humidity in the cellar, the wines can mature under ideal conditions.
