After the initial swirl, this red wine reveals a high density and richness, which is evident in church windows at the rim of the glass. This Spanish cuvée reveals wonderfully expressive notes of blueberries, black currants, mulberries and blackberries in the glass. These are joined by hints of brown bread, cinnamon and black tea.
On the palate, Marqués de Riscal's Rioja Reserva starts wonderfully dry, grippy and aromatic. There is dry and really dry. This red wine belongs to the latter group, as it was bottled with only 2.3 grams of residual sugar. On the palate, the texture of this punchy red wine is wonderfully silky and dense. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the soils dominated by clay and limestone are added.
Vinification of the Marqués de Riscal Rioja Reserva
The basis for the first-class and wonderfully powerful Cuvée Rioja Reserva from Marqués de Riscal are Cariñena, Graciano and Tempranillo grapes. In La Rioja, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of clay and limestone. Of course, Rioja Reserva is also determined by the climate and viticultural style of Rioja DOCa. This Spaniard can be described as an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, with an exceptionally impressive presentation. After the hand harvest, the grapes arrive at the winery by the fastest route. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Then fermentation takes place in small wood at controlled temperatures. After its end, the Rioja Reserva is aged for another 25 months in American oak barrels.
