More information about Mouton Cadet Cuvée Héritage Bordeaux AOP - Baron Philippe de Rothschild

That wines from Bordeaux belong to the absolute top tier is something that hardly needs to be explained to anyone. That this top tier does not necessarily have to be unaffordable is impressively demonstrated by the limited Mouton Cadet Bordeaux Héritage AOP from the house of Baron Philippe de Rothschild.

Just like its creator Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the Héritage red wine is of impressive versatility and cosmopolitan character. This wealth of facets is already evident in the color with which this Bordeaux wine flows into the red wine goblet. You will almost want to dip your paintbrush into the wonderfully sparkling purple with its dark reflections in order to refine a white canvas with it. We resist that temptation, however, and instead bury our nose deep in the glass. Our olfactory receptors confirm that this was a good decision as they encounter an incredibly dense, richly aromatic bouquet of well-ripened blackcurrants, dark cherries and wild blueberries, supported by pleasantly warm, spicy roasted notes and a subtle hint of sweet vanilla which the Mouton Cadet Bordeaux Héritage AOP from Baron Philippe de Rothschild owes to its maturation in oak barrels. The impressions on the nose are so dense that you almost involuntarily begin to chew, because you can practically taste the aromas.

The aromatic density then glides benevolently and silkily over the tongue, which immediately begins to cautiously discern the flavors. The red wine advances leisurely, without striking with a hammer and pouring out the complete aromatic package in one gush. Instead, the discerning wine lover may experience the full pleasure of the fruit palette that is generously presented. The fruits unfold their full potential sip by sip. Plenty of dark berries and some stone fruit are accompanied by a pleasant oak spice and fine vanilla. The well-structured tannins skilfully round off the enjoyment before the Mouton Cadet Héritage glides into a long, juicy finish.

Vinification of Mouton Cadet Héritage

The Héritage from Baron Philippe de Rothschild is a limited cuvée made predominantly from Merlot, supported by a small share of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes come from selected parcels; only delicious and fully ripe grapes are used. They are vinified separately from one another. In total, the wine matures for 24 months.

Food recommendations for Mouton Cadet Héritage

A red wine as aromatic as the Héritage is best served with elaborate dark dishes such as entrecôte with fried onion rings, broad green beans and glazed carrots, or braised lamb shoulder with wild garlic and goat’s cheese stuffing. Needless to say, you can also simply make yourself comfortable in front of the fireplace with a glass of Héritage and an aromatic cigar, just as you please. However, we recommend decanting the wine two to three hours before drinking and enjoying it at 16 to 19° C.

This is what the winemaker says about his Héritage

Baron Philippe de Rothschild: "Its unique style, which has remained high-quality yet lively over the vintages, is the result of a precise blend of the different grape varieties."
