Optima - Anthonij Rupert Wyne

In the glass, the Optima from Anthonij Rupert Wyne reveals a dense, purple-red color. With a slight tilt, the rim of the wine glass shows a charming garnet-red hue. Swirling the glass, this red wine displays high density and richness, evident from the pronounced church windows on the glass wall. The first nose of the Optima caresses with notes of blueberries, mulberries and blackberries. In addition to the fruity aromas on the bouquet, there are also nuances from barrel aging, such as further fruity-balsamic notes.

On the palate, the Optima from Anthonij Rupert Wyne opens wonderfully dry, firm and aromatic. There is dry, and then there is really dry. This red wine belongs to the latter group, as it was bottled with only 2.2 g of residual sugar. Thanks to its pronounced acidity, the Optima appears wonderfully fresh and lively on the palate. On the finish, this well-ageable wine from the Western Cape wine region finally delights with a beautiful length. Once again, hints of mulberry and blueberry appear.

Vinification of the Optima from Anthonij Rupert Wyne

The basis for the powerful Optima from the Western Cape is grapes from the varieties Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A not-to-be-underestimated influence on the ripening of the harvested fruit also comes from the fact that the Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes thrive under the influence of a warm climate. This is expressed, among other things, in particularly well-ripened grapes and a comparatively high alcohol content in the wine. After harvesting, the grapes are brought to the press house as quickly as possible. There they are sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in large wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the Optima is matured for several months in French oak barrels. This is followed by a long period of bottle aging, which makes this red wine even more complex.

Food recommendation for Anthonij Rupert Wyne Optima

This South African red wine is best enjoyed at a tempered 15 - 18°C. It is perfectly suited as an accompanying wine to stuffed bell peppers, lamb ragout with chickpeas and dried figs, or boeuf bourguignon.
