More information about Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé - Château Canon-la-Gaffelière

The biologically produced Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé from Château Canon la Gaffelière gleams with a dense purple red in the glass. When swirling the wine glass, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, indicated by pronounced tears on the glass rim. Poured into a Bordeaux glass, this Old World red wine unfolds wonderfully expressive aromas of blackcurrant and sour cherry, rounded out by notes of licorice, chocolate, and blueberry, contributed by the barrel aging.

The Château Canon la Gaffelière Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé presents itself to the connoisseur as wonderfully dry. This red wine is never rough or austere, as one might expect from a wine in the Icon-Wine segment. On the palate, the texture of this full-bodied red wine is delightfully creamy. The finish of this highly age-worthy red wine from the Bordeaux wine region, specifically from Saint-Emilion, impresses with a noteworthy aftertaste. The finish is further complemented by mineral facets from the soils dominated by clay and limestone.

Vinification of Château Canon la Gaffelière Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

The starting point for the first-class and wonderfully powerful cuvée Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé from Château Canon la Gaffelière are grapes of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Bordeaux. The vines have deep roots in soils of clay and limestone. The Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé is an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, as this French wine exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of wines from the Old World. The grapes for this French red wine are harvested exclusively by hand, once optimal ripeness has been ensured. After hand harvest, the grapes are quickly transported to the winery. Here, they are sorted and gently crushed. This is followed by fermentation in small wooden vats at controlled temperatures. After fermentation, the biologically produced Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé is matured for 16 months in oak barrels made of European oak.

Food pairing recommendation for Château Canon la Gaffelière Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

This French red wine should be enjoyed at a temperature of 15 - 18°C. It is an ideal accompaniment to duck breast with sugar snap peas, braised chicken in red wine, or leek soup.
