The Sandstone Castelão, aged in barrel and hailing from the Península de Setúbal winegrowing region, presents itself in the glass with a dense ruby-red hue. The bouquet of this red wine from the Península de Setúbal delights with aromas of sour cherry and raspberry. Following the aromas further, red currant appears, enhanced by the influence of oak.

This Portuguese wine tastes pleasantly dry. It was bottled with exceptionally little residual sugar. As you would expect from a wine in the premium entry-level range, this Portuguese wine charms, despite all its dryness, with the finest balance. Aroma does not necessarily require residual sugar. This velvety red wine presents itself on the palate as powerful and complex. On the finish, this red wine from the Península de Setúbal region finally captivates with a lovely length. Once again, nuances of sour cherry and raspberry appear.

Vinification of the Sandstone Castelão from Casa Ermelinda

The powerful Sandstone Castelão from Portugal is a single-varietal wine made from the Castelão grape variety. After the harvest, the grapes are swiftly brought to the winery. There they are sorted and gently crushed. This is followed by fermentation in large wooden vats at controlled temperatures. Vinification is followed by aging for several months on the fine lees before the wine is finally bottled.
