The Bergdolt-Reif & Nett winery is located in the small village of Duttweiler in the middle of the Palatinate. Here, where the name Bergdolt alone can be found on every second street corner, Bergdolt-Reif & Nett has its roots. These go back to the year 1838, where the foundation stone for the creation of the winery was laid with the construction of the sandstone vaulted cellar. The varied history of the winery includes a division of the estate in 1900, as well as an adoption and marriage-in, all of which led to the current owners and operators of the Palatinate winery.

Nett family - the heart of the winery

Christian Nett Winery Bergdolt-Reif & Nett

The Nett family, now the fifth generation to run and manage Bergdolt-Reif & Nett, has a clear vision of their wines. The thinker and driver of the winery in this regard is master winemaker Christian Nett, born in 1981. Christian has been running the BRN cellar since he was 19 years old. He completed his training with August Ziegler, Dr. Deinhard and at the top VDP winery Müller-Catoir. Since his father Bernhard gave him responsibility for the cellar, the two have been running the winery together as Roman consuls. The two often clash, especially because Christian is particularly concerned about quality and yield reduction, while his father still grew up with the maxim "the more wine in bottles, the better" and thus survived as a winemaker in a tough profession. Especially the experience as a winemaker and the sure sense for wind and weather, make father Bernhard priceless for Christian Nett.

Perfect Palatinate conditions for Nett

At an altitude of 120 to 140 meters above sea level, Nett's vines grow on mighty loess and clay soils interspersed with fine veins of limestone. The climate, here between Speyer and Neustadt an der Weinstraße, is almost Mediterranean. Ideal conditions to grow grape varieties such as Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Dornfelder, Müller-Thurgau and actually all Burgundy grape varieties. 76% of the grape varieties grown at Bergdolt-Reif & Nett are white grapes. Always close to nature, Bergdolt-Reif & Nett has been taking an even more consistent approach since 2011. The best vineyards, namely the top site Mandelberg, where the grapes for the Prestige wines and Christian's Specials grow, are farmed by horsepower at Bergdolt-Reif & Nett. More specifically, a Rhenish-German cold-blooded horse helps keep the soil loose so that it can breathe. In this way, grapes grow that are of higher quality and give even more character to the wines of Berdolt-Reif & Nett.

Barriques in the cellar of Bergdolt-Reif & Nett

Christian Nett is all about change and daring, not only in the bottle, but also in his wine names and labels. This starts with his Glaube-Liebe-Hoffnung Riesling, which comes along classically with cross, anchor and heart on the label and continues with the Paranoia Pinot Noir, his red wine Herzschlag, his Chardonnay Nettswerk and many others.

The wine nomenclature of Bergdolt-Reif & Nett

  • Tradition - forms the entry
  • Creation - usually cuvées or innovatively developed single varietal wines
  • Black Edition - high quality wines with a lower yield per hectare
  • Avantgarde - long maceration periods and particularly delicate vinification further enhance quality
