Calmel & Joseph History

Founded in 1995, Calmel & Joseph is a trading house specializing in Languedoc Roussillon wines from private cellars spread throughout the area. They have patiently established good relationships with a large number of winemakers from all appellations. Convinced of the exceptional potential of this region, Laurent Calmel, oenologist and Jérôme Joseph, vinify, blend and age all the wines with the common desire to prove the unique and too little known quality of these Mediterranean terroirs. In addition to the desire to produce high quality wines according to their terroir, you are very keen to vinify according to your convictions and experience.

Domaine Calmel & Joseph

Domaine Calmel & Joseph is a former smallholding which first appears in a title deed in the name of Jehan de Calmès - Lord of Saint Jullia dated 26 July 1577. The smallholding will bear several names throughout its history, such as Borde Neuve or La Madone. The Domaine Calmel & Joseph is located in the heart of a 160 hectare site with a total of 200 hectares, but what is remarkable is its geographical location on the foothills of the Val de Dagne, the Alaric and the Hautes Corbières.

Calmel Joseph Fasser

Calmel & Joseph soil and wind

The soils, mainly sandy clay and limestone with limestone outcrops in hills and valleys, allow the winemakers to find suitable sites and orientations. The domaine has a complex crossroads of geological but also climatic influences at the meeting of Corbières, Limoux and Minervois. The climate is typically Mediterranean, due to the presence of the small mountain Alaric which defends the oceanic entrances, one finds here lower temperatures and much more rain than a few kilometers away towards Narbonne.
