More information about Chenin Blanc - Cederberg

Cederberg Chenin Blanc is a varietally pure, harmonious and finesse-rich white wine from South Africa's Western Cape wine region in Cape South Coast.

In the glass, this wine shines in a sparkling straw yellow with light golden highlights. The multi-layered bouquet is revealed as soon as it is poured. The nose enjoys present aromas of melon, grapefruit and white pear. On the palate, this South African white wine convinces with a crisp acidity. Thanks to aging on the lees, the texture is wonderfully creamy. The lively character remains noticeable until the medium finish.

The Chenin Blanc grape variety - actually originating from the Loire - has a long tradition in South Africa and is now considered an indigenous grape variety.

Vinification of the Cederberg Chenin Blanc

The Chenin Blanc grapes are carefully harvested by hand in the early morning hours. The vines in the Cederberg vineyard grow on soils containing limestone and sandstone and face south and west.

Once the grapes arrive at the winery of Cederberg , the berries are gently pressed and mainly only the free-run juice is used for this white wine. The must is then chilled for two days at 10 degrees Celsius and fermented for 24 days with selected yeast strains. The creamy texture is provided by sur lie aging for 4 months with monthly bâttonage.

Food recommendation for the Chenin Blanc Cederberg

This dry white wine from South Africa is an excellent companion to crisp summer salads with fresh seafood or even pasta in creamy salmon cream sauce. But also solo this wine is a pleasure.
