More information about Elgin Chardonnay - Boschendal

The elegant Elgin Chardonnay from Boschendal flows into the glass with a radiant golden yellow. After the first swirl, you can perceive a perfect balance in this white wine, as it does not cling to the sides of the glass in a watery, syrupy, or liqueur-like manner. The first nose of the Elgin Chardonnay reveals orange blossom, honeysuckle, and acacia. Notes from barrel aging, such as additional fruity-balsamic nuances, join the fruity components of the bouquet.

The Boschendal Elgin Chardonnay presents itself to the wine lover as pleasantly dry. This white wine never appears coarse or austere, as one might expect from a wine in the icon segment. On the finish, this white wine from the Western Cape wine-growing region, which has good aging potential, finally delights with a beautiful length. Once again, hints of pink grapefruit and pomelo emerge.

Vinification of the Elgin Chardonnay from Boschendal

The well-balanced Elgin Chardonnay from South Africa is a single-varietal wine made from the Chardonnay grape. A significant influence on the ripeness of the harvested fruit also comes from the fact that the Chardonnay grapes thrive under the influence of a warm climate. This manifests itself, among other things, in particularly well-ripened grapes and a comparatively high alcohol content in the wine. After being hand-picked, the grapes are brought to the press house as quickly as possible. There they are sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in large oak vessels at controlled temperatures. After fermentation, the wine matures for 11 months in French oak barrels.

Food recommendation for Boschendal Elgin Chardonnay

Enjoy this white wine from South Africa best moderately chilled at 11–13°C as an accompanying wine to wok vegetables with fish, spaghetti with yogurt-mint pesto, or fried trout with ginger and pear.
