Günter and Regine Triebaumer

Triebaumer - a couple, rich in experience

For centuries, the name Triebaumer Rust has stood for viticulture on Lake Neusiedl. The family has been based in Rust since 1691. However, Günter Triebaumer and Regina Limbeck are taking their own very contemporary approach with their business, building on the traditions of a long-established family of winegrowers. Their credo is: Always look openly into the world, always stay in motion. Günter Triebaumer and Regina Limbeck have found each other for life - and for wine.

The vineyards - Rust on Lake Neusiedl

The winery is located in a growing area with a special history. In 1681 the then market town of Rust acquired the rights and privileges of a free town from the Hungarian Crown. To pay for this status were 60,000 florins in gold and about 30,000 liters of the best Rust outbreak, which corresponded to ten average annual harvests. An incredible sum. Rust was a rich town and it owed this to its liquid, noble sweet gold - the Rust Ausbruch. The large expanse of water of Lake Neusiedl, the basin shape of the Rust hills and the very special interplay of sun and humidity create a unique microclimate in Rust.

Günter Triebaumer and Regina Limbeck take the history of the town, the sites and the unique surroundings as their benchmark and translate them into well-structured wines that are full of character and typical of Burgenland. They are represented by 20 hectares in the best sites of the Freistadt Rust. Their vineyards are easy to recognize: Lots of leafy mass with an aerated grape zone. In winter and spring you can see the short pruning on site. Depending on the vigor of the individual vine, a reasonable number of grapes is decided. It is exactly in this point that a winegrower's down-to-earth attitude and understanding of nature is best demonstrated.

No sex for butterflies - Winery Triebaumer

Günter and Regina Triebaumer

Günther and Regina Triebaumer work with the soil and not against it. This means no herbicides are used and no unnecessary cosmetic tillage is done. During the blossoming of the vines in May/June, the undergrowth is kept very short, and after that, one or the other plant is allowed to grow in order to protect against erosion.

Since the early 1970s, the use of mineral fertilizers has also been abandoned. Instead, all residues from foliage work, pruning and grape processing are spread back into the vineyards as compost.

White grapes in the box

The grape berry moth, which particularly likes to eat Blaufränkisch blossoms or berries in its caterpillar phase, is countered in a lustful manner as part of the Rust pheromone project. "No sex for butterflies" has largely eliminated the grape berry moth by means of confusion tactics. Small dispensers of the female sex hormone are hung in the vineyards, which continuously release these scents. As a result, the confused males can no longer locate their potential mates and therefore cannot fertilize them.
