More information about Hill 1 - Leo Hillinger

The Leo Hillinger Hill 1 is a first-class red wine in the wine glass. In this it shows a wonderfully brilliant, bright red color. Held at a slight angle, a transition of the hue towards garnet red is discernible at the edges of this barrel-aged wine. If you give it some air in the glass by swirling it, this red wine is characterized by an immense lightness that makes it dance with verve in the glass. The bouquet of this red wine from Burgenland captivates with hints of mulberry, plum, damson and black cherry. If we trace the aromatics further, garrigue, green bell pepper and vanilla are added.

This Austrian wine delights with its elegantly dry flavor. It was bottled with exceptionally little residual sugar. As you would naturally expect in a wine icon wine segment, this Austrian naturally enraptures with the finest balance for all its dryness. Taste does not necessarily need residual sugar. Light-footed and multifaceted, this dense and velvety red wine presents itself on the palate. The final of this mature red wine from the wine-growing region of Burgenland, more precisely from Lake Neusiedl, finally convinces with considerable reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets of the soils dominated by loess soil and black earth.

Vinification of the Leo Hillinger Hill 1

The basis for Leo Hillinger's first-class and wonderfully elegant Cuvée Hill 1 is Blaufränkisch, Merlot and Zweigelt grapes. In Burgenland, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of loess, volcanic rock and black earth. Of course, Hill 1 is also defined by more than just the soil of Lake Neusiedl. This Austrian can literally be described as an Old World wine that is exceptionally fragrant and complex. When perfect physiological ripeness is assured, the grapes for Hill 1 are harvested exclusively by hand without the aid of crude and less selective machinery. After the harvest, the grapes are immediately transferred to the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. Then fermentation takes place in small wood at controlled temperatures. At the end of fermentation, Hill 1 is aged for 20 months in oak barrels.

Food recommendation for the Hill 1 from Leo Hillinger

Experience this red wine from Austria ideally tempered at 15 - 18°C as an accompanying wine to duck breast with sugar snap peas, leek soup or boeuf bourguignon.
