More information about Napier Red Medallion - Napier Vineyards
The Napier Red Medallion from the Western Cape wine-growing region presents itself in the glass with a dense purple-red color. When held at a slight angle, the Bordeaux glass reveals a charming garnet-red hue at the rim. When the wine glass is swirled, this red wine reveals high viscosity, which shows in pronounced church windows on the glass. The first nose of the Napier Red Medallion presents nuances of plum. More fruity-balsamic nuances join the fruity components of the bouquet.
This South African wine impresses with its elegantly dry flavor profile. It was bottled with 2.6 grams of residual sugar. As one would expect from a premium wine, this South African naturally delights, despite all its dryness, with the finest balance. Aroma does not necessarily require a lot of residual sugar. On the palate, the texture of this powerful red wine presents itself as wonderfully full-bodied. Thanks to its lively acidity, the Napier Red Medallion reveals itself on the palate as wonderfully fresh and vibrant. On the finish, this highly age-worthy wine from the Western Cape wine-growing region finally thrills with extraordinary length. Hints of plum appear again.
Vinification of Napier Vineyards Napier Red Medallion
The starting point for the first-class and wonderfully powerful Napier Red Medallion cuvée from Napier Vineyards are Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot grapes. When perfectly ripe, the grapes for the Napier Red Medallion are harvested exclusively by hand, without the use of coarse, less selective mechanical harvesters. After hand-picking, the grapes are transported to the press house as quickly as possible. There they are selected and gently crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks and 225 l barriques at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the Napier Red Medallion can continue to harmonize for several months on the fine lees.
